Be still in the presence of the LORD,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.
Psalm 37:7
I often feel the need to explain the entire situation to Jesus when I ask for help. Communicating with the Father is vital but sometimes going into so much detail feels like it stresses me out more.
I think it is because I’m focusing on the situation or problem and NOT so much on Him.
We are instructed to be still in the presence of the Lord.
Our minds should be focused on Him, not rattling off all the issues as if forgetting to mention one small detail that He will miss it. He knows all things. Everything.
We don’t have to give the Lord the entire detailed situation, He planned this a million years ago and we are right where we are by His plan.
We are to wait patiently for Him to act.
This can be very difficult. Especially when you have options or actions you can take right then and there that will directly change or address the situation.
When there is nothing you can do it is easier. Okay, Lord I can’t do anything about this situation – I’m leaving it in your hands.
Versus, Lord I can do this or that and it will likely fix this.
Then the next day I wake up and am likely to just take action.
We are to wait patiently for the Lord to act.
So do we not take any action and just wait for the Lord to make something happen?
Or do we take action?
I suspect it depends on the situation.
If a person hates his/her job, should he/she just continue doing the work with a grateful heart and wait for God to open a new door? Perhaps.
Applying to new jobs and or acquiring new skills to find a new job would not be wrong. It is preparing for new opportunities. It can be considered walking by faith.
God will open the door according to His plan. We don’t want to kick open doors.
We want to wait for the Lord to open the door of opportunity.
While we wait, why not prepare? Get better, improve, sharpen our skills, add to them.
If God opens 2 new jobs for a person, which one should he/she choose?
Seek the Lord, thank Him for the 2 opportunities wait for Him to act. He will show you the best route to take – if you wait on Him.
And remember, if He gives you two job options whichever one you end up choosing is good. It is not a moral issue of right and wrong so there is no sin involved!
Lastly, we are instructed not to worry about wicked people doing their thing.
Doesn’t see difficult to do given that most of the time we aren’t affected by these schemes – BUT when we are this verse is very impactful.
If the richest people in the world spend their time scheming to control the masses with “science” or “generosity” we laugh and think how ridiculous that they want to play God.
But when the leadership at our places of work cherry pick which rules to enforce to promote their own upward movement at the cost of quality work and neglect giving credit to where it is due, it hits us much harder.
As they are promoted, make more money, have more say in decisions, we are to simply trust the Lord and not worry about their plans and schemes.
God will sort them out. God fights for us. He will never leave us.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Romans 8:28
When things get tough, I always think back to this verse and then remember the story of Joseph and what he went through.
The worse the injustice, the worse the treatment without fair cause, the bigger the reward from the Father.
Think about it – who was done the worst? Jesus! He lived a perfect life, loved others, healed them, and He was crucified. Rose again from the grave, and now He sits at the right hand of God.
Another example is Job and there are many others.
In your struggle today, hand it over to God. Trust Him with it.
Rest in His promise, wait patiently for Him to act and don’t worry about the haters and the back biters, the gossipers, the trouble makers. God will sort them out and He will use everything you’re going through for your benefit.
Have a solid Thursday in the name of Jesus our holy, powerful, and caring King.
Your brother in Christ,
Dave
