Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.
Proverbs 14:4
What is King Solomon saying here?
If we don’t have oxen, there is no poop to clean up. No dirt, mud, hay mixed with poop that sticks to the floor to clean. Easy because there is nothing to clean.
But without the oxen, we don’t have the muscle needed nor the speed to harvest the crop. To capitalize on the growth from the crop. To gain from the increase.
I think it is clear he is saying – that it takes work to harvest, to reap, to gain. It takes work which requires effort and energy to gain.
If you want to gain, increase your crop/income, it requires work.
You’re probably not cleaning a stable with your oxen, but maybe you are debating on starting a business and you need to fill out an application, learn a new program, build something new – it requires work.
If you don’t learn it or build it, it would be easier. A lot easier…. but then you won’t gain anything, won’t increase your income, won’t improve your family’s living condition and future opportunities.
Let’s choose the path that leads to increase.
Let’s do the work and capture the increase – giving God thanks for generating the increase while we simply do the work to collect it.
Get some.
Your brother in the trenches,
Dave
