The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.

Psalm 33:6

Did God create the heavens with words? Yup.

Just speaking, He created the heavens.

He spoke the word and all the stars were started.

For me this is easy to believe – because it is God’s word and He is great.

But it’s difficult for me to understand. How can words create physical objects?

As I write this, the only way or analogy I can use to sort of understand this is if I say something mean to myself, it hurts, and creates a pain inside of me which then I feel stress from. My words are causing a physical change/reaction.

Now I think of examples in the Bible when Jesus raised the dead. He commanded, “Lazarus, come forth” and Lazarus rose from being dead and walked out of the tomb. Again, God creating physical change with His words.

The disciples, by the power of God, raised the dead and healed the sick. Joshua asked God with words to keep the sun from setting to give them complete victor over Israel’s enemies that day.

The Bible is full of examples of God doing amazing things often using people to do His work. A lot of these examples show that our words are powerful because we serve the King and he empowers us to do His work.

Remember this today, that as a child of the Most High, you are granted power in your words to do His work. Love God and love others.

Today, this Tuesday, let’s use our words to bring life and encourage those around us.

In the name of Jesus, let us create spiritual and physical change to bring glory to Jesus by loving others with our words spoken in love!

Get after it.

Your brother in Christ,
Dave
